The steering damper is an essential part of the Super Beetle front end. It controls rapid right and left motions when the front end drives over uneven surfaces and potholes. Many customers report that a fresh damper solved their shimmy problems. You should also check the condition of the rubber bushing in the pitman arm (drop arm) The bushing is sold separately. (#88-3014 or #88-3015 EZ Install.)
