Adjusting your pulley tension is an important part of your VW's maintenance. Even if your pulley halves only require one or two shims to get the proper belt tension, you should also keep at least 8 shims total on hand. The extra shims that you are not using between the pulley halves should be stored outside the pulley halves, under the pulley nut and stabilizing washer. Set of 8.
